- WHAT'S NEW IN v1.2 ?
- ====================
-
- 1. James 1.2 features a KBD-Autoload. That is, if you load another
- keyboard layout, enable it (checkmark must be set) and then SAVE the
- current settings, you butler tries during the next bootup to load
- exactly this file. If this fails, you'll get an alert 'TOS Error #33'
- - file not found. Hit return to continue.
-
- 2. The screendumps can now be redirected on any drive, in any path.
-
- 3. The screensaver works correctly. That was only a very very tiny
- bug, and it was hard to find...
-
- 4. There's a new dialog, the SETUP-MENU. This menu allows you to
- set the internal paramaters of James.
- * Extkey -> new KBD. -- That has to do with the KBD-autoload.
- The extended keyboard function has to be initialized once on the
- keyboard layout because it use the scancodes internally. If you load
- another keyboard table you can force ExtKey to initialize on the new
- kbd instead on the original tables. However this can only be done
- during startup, and it won't work if you reload a kbd file later.
- * Set HCopy Path. -- Here you can define the name and the path
- of a screendump. To select a new path, set with the item selector the
- path and drive you like, then enter a name (!!). If you omit the
- name, your entry will be ignored. A name must at least have 1
- character and an extender, 1 char minimum. If you enter a 'normal'
- name, e.g. 'TEST.XYZ', James will correct it to 'TEST00.PI3' (or in
- midres 'TEST00.PI2'). The second screendump will be named
- 'TEST01.PI3' etc. But you may also start with any number you like. If
- you enter 'SCRN_75.PI3', James will count from 75 upwards. If you are
- too lazy to enter a real name you may simply enter '.x'. In this case
- James defaults to 'HCOPY_01.PI3', however using the path you've just
- selected.
- * Restore. -- Restores the last saved settings for the
- mouse-speeder.
- * THE MOUSE SPEEDER: This is the new standard for mouse-speeder
- programs. It's a completely new routine, using a polynom of the 4th
- degree to determine the mouse cursor speed. The four sliders
- correspond to the factors a1,a2,a3,a4 in the formula
- 'Vcurs=a4*x^4+a3*x^3+a2*x^2+a1*x'. This sound very complex and
- difficult, but you'll see that in fact it's very simple. Some
- examples: You want a mouse-speeder that doubles the movements? - ok,
- set the a1-slider on mid-way, the other three on minimum (0). Or do
- you prefer a dynamic speeder? - use the a2-slider. One hint: when the
- setup-dialog is active, you can 'short-circuit' the speeder by
- pressing the CONTROL-key. This is helpful when you are adjusting the
- sliders. And if you own a color monitor, you'll remark that in Midres
- the mouse speed is the same in X and Y direction!
-
- 5. Finally, there's a hidden function in James: you can immunize
- any disk, even if it isn't infected by a virus. Simply hold down the
- CONTROL-key when you click on the 'Test Bootsector'-button in the
- disk-menu.
